Decontamination measures to restore facilities and the environment after a natural or deliberate release of pathogenic microorganisms

The aim of the DEFERM project is to analyse and improve processes and measures in the event of accidental or deliberate contamination with unknown biological hazardous substances. Since the threat posed by pathogenic microorganisms can have a cross-border character, cooperation is taking place between German and French authorities and scientists. The aim is to strengthen the capabilities of emergency forces at both the technical and operational levels and to test and improve special procedures.

On the one hand, the sociological sub-project deals with the institutional and organisational structures of emergency response in Germany and France; on the other hand, the concrete procedures and safety culture of emergency forces in both countries will be examined. The aim of the sub-project is to contribute to Franco-German cooperation and to raise awareness of the connection between institutional structure and (high)safety culture.
